Welcome
After a year in development I am pleased to announce the release of the Green Star - Office Interiors v1 rating tool. We celebrated the release of this tool at our first Brisbane Forum, which was sponsored by the Queensland Government Department of Public Works, TVS Partnership and ecospecifier. I thank all those who contributed monies, content, time and effort to the tool's development.
Our April Melbourne Forum “The Case for Sustainable Buildings” profiled the stories behind three new commercial developments in Melbourne. It’s been a busy start to 2005 with so many Green Building Council events; we’ve held two forums in Melbourne, one in Brisbane and one in Sydney, and our regular Green Star courses have been extremely popular, selling out in Brisbane and Sydney.
Our focus in the coming month will centre on preparation for the World Green Building Council International Congress Open Day. Green Building Council leaders from around the world will meet in San Francisco for the event, which is in partnership with the United Nations' World Environment Day on 5 June 2005. Melbourne’s Lord Mayor John So will represent Australia at the Mayors' Luncheon.
I’d like to alert you to the position advertised below; our team is looking for a new Green Star Technical Manager.
The Council is also pleased to welcome its newest members: ISD Ltd, and Techbuilt Interiors Pty Ltd.
Maria

The 6th National Business Leaders Forum on Sustainable Development was a one day forum preceded by a dinner at which awards were presented to companies who had topped their sector rankings or markedly improved their performance within the Corporate Responsibility Index. Westpac once again topped the Australian Index and this year topped the UK as well. Fosters Group picked up the gong for most improved participant.
The dinner was also used to launch the book 'The Natural Advantage of Nations', which is a collection of articles about sustainability written by leaders in various fields. It's a useful source book for anyone interested in sustainability issues in all fields and is well indexed with an excellent range of references.
The following day's most interesting presentation was from Ray Anderson, the CEO of Interface, who presented via live video feed from Atlanta. He described himself as a "recovering plunderer" who was now committing the company to growth with a zero ecological footprint. Mr Anderson presented a clear business case for the success of sustainable manufacturing practices.
He also put in a big plug for the GBC, referring to its "soaring membership" and the growing popularity of certification systems. Read More »
